Complex lapse, complex action, and path integrals.

Abstract. Imaginary time is often used in quantum tunnelling calculations. This article advocates a conceptually sounder alternative: complex lapse. In the “3+1” action for the Einstein gravitational field minimally coupled to a Klein-Gordon field, allowing the lapse function to be complex yields a complex action which generates both the usual Lorentzian theory and its Riemannian analogue, and ...

Finite Action Yang-mills Solutions on the Group Manifold

We demonstrate that the left (and right) invariant Maurer-Cartan forms for any semi-simple Lie group enable one to construct solutions of the Yang-Mills equations on the group manifold equipped with the natural Cartan-Killing metric. For the unitary unimodular groups the Yang-Mills action integral is finite for such solutions. This is explicitly exhibited for the case of SU(3).

Hamiltonians, path integrals, and a new renormalization group.

New non-perturbative methods for dealing with Hamiltonian systems are introduced. The derivation of these methods requires identities for rewriting exponentials of sums of operators which are different from the usual Campbell-Hausdorff formula. These identities allow one to derive approximations to e -6H which are correct to higher order in S and which contain fewer terms than the CampbellHausd...

Path Integrals Without Integrals∗

Recently, we have developed an efficient recursive approach for analytically calculating the short-time expansion of the propagator to extremely high orders for a general many-body quantum system. Here we give brief overview of this approach and then demonstrate application of this technique by numerically studying the thermodynamical properties of a rotating ideal Bose gas of Rb atoms in an an...

Gibbs measures with double stochastic integrals on a path space

We investigate Gibbs measures relative to Brownian motion in the case when the interaction energy is given by a double stochastic integral. In the case when the double stochastic integral is originating from the Pauli-Fierz model in nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics, we prove the existence of its infinite volume limit. 1 Preliminaries 1.1 Gibbs measures relative to Brownian motions Gibbs ...
